Description
This is a square image of a crimson-eyed mallow or swamp mallow. Also called marshmallow hibiscus. This strikingly showy species is an obligate wetland indicator, often found along edges of salt marshes but more common in upper-valley wetlands. Several subspecies and varieties are proposed, and many cultivars have been developed. The plant is a native to Louisiana and is common around watery areas such as marshes, swamps, and bayous.
