Osteoclast in a foetus's bone lacunae, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This osteoclast is seen in a Howslips lacuna, spaces in the bone where they are responsible for remodeling the bone surface. Osteoclasts remodel bone by degrading and reabsorbing it in response to growth or changing mechanical stress. Magnification x750 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
