The Stone Arch Bridge, crossing the Callicoon Creek in Kenoza Lake is one of Sullivan County's most famous structures. It was built by German and Swiss stonemasons around 1880.
It is considered to be one of Sullivan County's most famous structures on the National Register of Historic Places.
One of the few hex murders on record was committed in Sullivan County on the bridge in 1882 . As the story goes, a hex was placed on Adam Heidt which had caused him suffering and pain through most of his life, to end his agony and suffering, A Man Named Joseph decided to murder George Markert, the man that was claimed to have put the curse on Adam. For him, this was the only way he knew how to break the curse. One night, while Markert was walking along the bridge, Joseph shot Markert in the head five times, clubbed him with his own heavy chair leg that he used to use, as a cane, and then proceeded to dump Markert's body off the bridge down into the icy waters. Joseph was convicted of murder and spent several years in prison. Adam claimed he had a full recovery suddenly of all the suffering and pain. There were reported sitings of a ghost walking the bridge, who knows?, it might have been George Markert.
